Bamboo Fence ----> Benches + Tiki Torches

So life in Saclepea continues to go well. This last week Jesse and I didn't have a ton of work since school was closing early 4/5 days and didn't open at all on the 5th. We had student body debates one day, elections the next, fence building day after that, then a soccer match (that the fence had been built for), finally it was the day after the match - and thus nobody came and school was cancelled before we even got started.

We did take advantage of the extra time to start getting things ready for my upcoming birthday party. My birthday is 3 days from now, and it is lining up with the end of the first period of teaching, so most of the Peace Corps teachers in Liberia (most of whom are part of my Guinea training group) are coming to Saclepea to share teaching ideas and celebrate my turning 24. I'm gonna make refried beans, mexican rice, tortillas, and hopefully a chocolate cake. Jesse and I have been hard at work this weekend making benches and tiki torches from our fallen bamboo fence (otherwise we'd have had about 20 people at our house and only 3 chairs for them to sit in), and we managed to get beer in bulk (cheaper) in preparation for the event. I think it will be a nice break for everyone, and it will certainly be great to see everyone again and see how work has been going at the various schools around the country.

Otherwise, things are good. I don't want to jinx myself by sharing the potentially awesome news of what improvement will be coming to my house in the next week, so I'll just leave you all in the same state of suspense that I'm in on the chance that it falls through. Believe me when I say I will post about it one way or the other by the end of this week.

Alright, gonna save my battery, until next time.
